This old building, which was in the past time, a dwelling place, was wearing away and had no use anymore... So, one more time, we decided to roll our sleeves up and went on renovating the house to give it a second life !

Thus, it now is a large and pleasant playroom that all occupants of the gite can access freely (ask the owners first).

Notes

The doors open directly onto the garden on one side and onto the courtyar on the other side, the building is easily accessable for disabled people. Obviously, for security and amenity reasons, eating and smoking are not allowed inside the house..

Deux pièces pour se divertir

Cette ancienne bâtisse n'était plus d'utilité. Une fois de plus, nous nous sommes donc lancé (avec toujours autant de plaisir) dans l'aventure de la rénovation pour lui redonner une seconde vie ! C'est ainsi que ce bâtiment est devenu une salle de jeu, mise à disposition des occupants du gîte sans supplément de location.

Ouvert de plain-pied sur la cour centrale, le bâtiment est accessible aux personnes handicapées. Pour d'évidentes raisons d'entretien et de respect commun, il est toutefois interdit de manger ou de fumer à l'intérieur.

Tourism in Ille and Viliane, Upper Brittany, strives to improve its excellency.

Their goal is to encourage and promote the quality of services provided within the Tourist sector, as well as constantly looking for ways in which to better meet the expectations of our visitors. With this in mind, the Ille and Viliane Tourist Board has set up a competition “The Tourism Trophy”, which creates healthy competition within the tourism sector and also helps to promote the tourist industry in the area.

The competition is open to people in the tourist industry and anyone who organises a tourist activity in the department of Ille and Vilaine.

The competition takes into account the innovation, originality and quality, of the tourist enterprise. It evaluates the services provided and the welcome that is offered to tourists. It also assesses the accuracy and effectiveness of practices in eco-tourism.

It is with great and justified pride that we found that our gite had been selected to participate for the “Tourism Trophy” in recognition of the work that we have accomplished. This selection is a fitting reward for our hard work.

It also reiterates and reinforces the previous awards received “Tourism for the Handicapped” and the “Tourism in the area of Les Portes de Bretagne”.

En Haute-Bretagne Ille-et-Vilaine, le Tourisme a soif d'excellence

Dans le but d'encourager la qualité des services offerts, de susciter une saine émulation et de valoriser la bonne idée, le bon concept ayant valeur d'exemple, l'Ille-et-Vilaine a mis en place un concours, les TROPHÉES DU TOURISME.

Placé sous l'égide du Comité Départemental du Tourisme, ce concours s'adresse aux professionnels du tourisme, ainsi qu'à toutes les personnes ayant organisé une activité touristique dans le département. Les critères de sélection tentent d'évaluer la justesse et l'efficacité des actions entreprises. Ils concernent :
– la qualité, l'originalité et l'innovation en matière d'infrastructures, d'accueil, de services proposés aux vacanciers,
– les bonnes pratiques en éco-tourisme ainsi que les actions de promotion et de commercialisation mises en place afin de mieux répondre aux attentes de notre clientèle.

C'est donc avec une légitime fierté que nous avons appris que notre gîte avait été retenu pour participer à ce concours : une belle reconnaissance du travail accompli. Et si la palme est revenue au Manoir de la Branche, la nomination qui nous a été attribuée est une belle récompense !

Cela nous conforte dans nos choix de privilégier avant tout la qualité. C'est d'ailleurs ce qu'avaient déjà montré les précédentes attributions du label "Tourisme et Handicap" et de celui du "Pays Touristique des Portes de Bretagne".

Brittany border areas, which were once fortified medieval towns were gradually built around their castles. Towns like Chateaugiron and Vitre follow in the footsteps of our ancestors by keeping their ancient traditions, for example, the weekly market in La Guerche de Bretagne and their believance in things like La Roche Aux Fees.

Marcillé-Robert

Our community is lucky enough to have in its area a lake (100 ha) which is a natural heritage sight. It is one of the departments natural beauty spots, protected and maintained by the general council. It is a haven for birds, and for nature lovers. There is fishing available, a nature trail, and an observation hut. (which is easily accessible from the La Guerche road)

Water activities : During the summer pedalos are available for hire and we recommend an outing on the lake to really enjoy the peace and quiet.

There is also a 17th Century church to see and a « Nature house » that has tourist information about Marcille Robert, the lake and the surrounding area.

La Roche Aux Fées

(Fairies Rock)

Mystery and extravaganza
Without any doubt, the most beautiful dolmen (from the Breton language meaning stonetable) of France , constructed with 40 or so large basaltic blocks, each one weighing, between 5 and 45 tons. This covered alleyway (length 19m50, width 4m70, and height 4m10) is one of the most remarkable sites in Europe. Its origin comes from the neolite period (3000 years BC) . At sunrise on winter solstice the entire length of the stones are covered in light, illuminating the interior of the momument.

The mystery remains
Still shrouded in mystery, the legends and magic remain a compelling force. The mystery of how and how many men it took to transport the stones from more than 4km away and then assemble them in their present site is still unknown.The work involved shows how important it was for the people to honour the spirits of the dead.

Legend :There is a legend that on a beautiful starlit night, good fairies, sisters or cousins of Morgane and Viviane, decided to prove their existence by building a monument so extraordinary that no one could imagine that it could possibly be constructed by men.

FURTHER AWAY...

Châteaugiron
The château, close to the Breton capital it once defended, was built in the middle ages and is a genuine fortress right in the heart of the town which has numerous houses with colourfully painted wooden beams. The 38m high round towers dominates the area.

La Guerche de Bretagne
Its Tuesday morning market is a true regional institution because it has existed since 1121. The opportunity to do some bargain shopping and amble through the medieval streets of the town, but don't forget a visit to the church.

Vitre
Just 20 minutes drive from the gite, this magnificent medieval city of art and history deserves at least one or two visits. The town centre is superb, with its cobbled streets, and shops, the château is more so ........ le site de l'office de Tourisme

Fougères
Town of art and history with its château of the middle ages set on a rocky spur is one of the biggest in Europe.

Rennes
The capital of Brittany is 30 minutes drive from the gite. The capital of economics and culture, is an impressive place to visit, with its fine architecture, museums, a magnificent Saturday market and good selection of shops.

Côte d'Emeraude

The Emerald countryside, like the sea which embraces it, reveals all its charms. Its prestigeous cities, such as Saint Malo and Dinard, with their delightful seaside resorts. Cities renowned for swimming, such as Saint-Lunaire, Saint-Briac..., its beautiful villages like Saint-Suliac nestled on the banks of the river of Rance, Cancale the oyster capital of Brittany, renowned for its oysters and sea food, with its sandy beaches, the pleasure of walking along the shore or the cliff tops.

Le Mont St Michel
It may take an hour to get there by car , but if you have not already seen it, you shouldn't pass up the opportunity to see this «Marvel of the World».
